Configuring Mysql

Just setting up my Minivend Online Ordering System, and I want to use Mysql
as my product database. I've scanned all the docs, and searched the mail
list archive, but I'm not clear on exactly how and where the DATABASE
directives go. In a central location for the catalogue, or line by line
within each page, or somewhere in between?

I'm ready to build the database, as soon as I understand the details of
using it with Minivend.
