Address problems

I have a problem with addresses.  It is validating the State/Province
field entered on the checkout.html page - and when it does it is not
recongnizing things like Canadian Provinces.  For example, we had a
client enter ON for a Canadian Province and he was not able to place his
order.  Also, if the zip is anything other than a 5 digit zip ( I guess
some foreign ones aren't), I get this message from the needfield.html
file

Error:  zip = zip

Does anybody know how to fix or get around these problems?
