Re: Can minivend go directly to flypage when the search returns only one item?
****** message to minivend-users from "David Ekholm" <info@minivend.com> ******
Hello everyone,
I finally did it! It's efficient and (in hindsight) it was very simple. If
you recall, to get the flypage when only one item was returned from a search
I was using the following code in the results page:
[if value mv_search_match_count < 2]
[search-list] (flypage stuff) [/search-list]
[else]
[search-list] (result page stuff) [/search-list]
[/else][/if]
This was really slow until I started using the new tags (putting [new] on
the page). Although it was fast enough to use (for the default 50 item
matchlimit) I was still bothered by the inefficiency of evaluating all the
flypage code for every item. The solution was to substitute
[fly-list code="[search-list][item-code][/search-list]"]
(flypage stuff)
[/fly-list]
for
[search-list] (flypage stuff) [/search-list]
This comes under the category of "I can't believe I didn't try this sooner!"
At least I finally got it to work.
If I may add a couple comments off this topic.
Better Documentation - I wholeheartedly applaud Mike's effort to improve the
documentation. Although it's pretty good, considering Mike isn't at all
compensated for doing it, it has often driven me crazy because of it's lack
of examples and occasional gaps (like the incomplete tag list). I would be
more than willing to pay for more thorough and easy to use documentation.
"Cheap" Minivend Hosting - I actually moved from a "cheap" minivend host to
minivend.com because I decided that it was important that my site be as
responsive as possible, even during peak times. My previous host (Superb
Internet Corp.) did an adequate job of supporting minivend, given that they
have thousands of users to deal with and they were not experts in minivend.
Because they only charged $25-40/month they had to load their servers up
with users to make money. This is probably OK for non-minivend users but my
site would often slow to a crawl at peak times. Also, if the minivend
server got shut down they would usually take 12-24 hours to restart it. I
guess what I'm saying is - with minivend hosting, you get what you pay for.
