Editing a database field

Hi,

How can I edit/change/modify/append a database rows/field(s) (flat ascii
database files) ? I know about the <form> method for database editing
and I use it, but is there a way to acomplish this with a regular mv
tag, i.e. something like

[data base="mybase" field="myfield" key="mykey"
set="my-new-field-value"]

I searched the FAQ, docs and mail-list archive - nope.
