You should search the archive a couple of days backwards for posts
from Mike Heins and you will have an idea what ideally he would like
to see. The list has many very active volunteers which will
help you a lot, matter of factly I believe not having seen a list
which is so much to the point in answering questions and very much
of good will.
If you don't get an answer then most probably because your question
is badly worded, so that noone can understand it, badly researched,
too general or noone knows the answer. Often the answers are received
like blessings from the sky with much gratefulness, sometimes hints
lead you to the "getting the picture".
Being a newcomer is no problem, but for example myself, I still don't
ask questions and I don't answer others, because I am never sure if
I couldn't find an answer to my question myself, just by studying the docs
one more time, and I am never sure if answers I might think of to other
people's questions would be correct. But I don't count, I am not
a programmer or system administrator. Luckily the list has a lot of them
and they are very good guys.
Often the silence on the list has something to do with many not being
sure of the correct answer.
MiniVend needs to be studied quite a bit, but there are tons of docs
and answers in the archives. It is a lot of work to go through it.
Expect to get your hands dirty and digging deep. You can go very far
even without being a programmer and even with little knowledge of Unix.
But I am sure after using MiniVend you may WANT to become good at
both. 8-)
