The Euro and locale settings

Dear Minivenders,

I am a happy Minivend 3.12 (Linux) user. There is only one little thing
I am just not getting to work right.
I would like to use the Euro currency along with my standard currency
which is DM (German Marks). While browsing the FAQ I found a solution
using the Locale settings in catalog.cfg:

[...]
Locale eur_EUR PriceDivide         1.95583
[...]
Locale de_DE
[...]

Along with those lines for the dynamic pages:

[item-price]<br><!-- german is default -->
    [setlocale eur_EUR]
    [currency convert=1][item-field price][/currency]<br><!-- the euro
-->
[setlocale]

I tried to use the code above and at first glance it *seemed* to work
until I pulled out my pocket calculator and checked the conversion
results. The Euro price calculated by "PriceDivide" is always slightly
different to the real value. Here is a sample output:

using setlocale/currency tags: 14,80 DM =? 7,16 Euro
using my pocket calculator: 14,80 DM == 7,57 Euro

All setlocale/currency values are very close to the real value.

My next steps were to try out all different sorts of combinations and
variations that crossed my mind, e.g. leaving out the [currency] tag,
using [currency convert=0], leaving out the ending [setlocale] or
setting it explicitly to my default [setlocale de_DE]. I also replaced
[item-field price] with [item-price], [discount-price], etc. All
mentioned possibilities ended up with similar results, but no correct
Euro conversion value.

Just for the sake of algorithmic completeness... here's how to convert
from DM to the Euro: DM / 1.95583 = Euro.

There is no corresponding entry in the error.log file or any other
obvious setup errors in my Minivend configuration.

I would appreciate any kind of idea to solve this little mystery ,-)
