quantity of accessories/sizes

I am using the item attributes tags effectively to make a drop down list of
the different sizes that we offer for various items.  However I am
interested in doing something that will show the quantity of sizes an item
is available in.  For example:  "This item is available in 4 sizes", where
the "4" would be generated based on the number of sizes (or commas) in the
sizes attribute field of the products database.  i.e.: 7", 8", 9", 10"

Does anyone know how this can be accomplished.  Thank you for your help.
