Sure you can. Our shipping costs are so highly variable that it would be
foolish to try and calculate them on line. It seems that the simple
catalog uses product weight to calculate shipping, and all our weights are
zero, so total shipping $ is always zero. Just remove all displays related
to shipping from your check-out and receipt forms, except keep shipmode if
you want your users to be able to specify the type of service (ground, air,
etc).
You can't get away from modifying the page templates, but it is a little
easier than customizing the shipping database.
