Dealing with discounts

I am trying to automate an existing product catalogue and need to
implement the same 'specials' that are already published in the paper
version.

I am open to any suggestions as to how to achieve the following.

1. Buy 3 and get 1 Free !!

Each time a catalogue is printed, the new releases are featured and to
encourage sales they are offered as a special.  The awkward, part is the
new releases also appear in the body of the catalogue as well.

2. Buy any two at the same price and get one free.

For the older stock, two items at the same price allow a special of a
third at the same or a lower price.

Any advice gratefully accepted.
