One of the up-and-coming alpha versions of mySQL will have SSL-encrypted
session support, added by Tonu Samuel.

Some of the commercial servers like Oracle support SSL encryption
with options for various authentication mechanisms (public key,
Kerberos, etc.)

Sybase also supports stuff with Security Guardian, but I have no
direct experience with it -- this is all hearsay.

Hopefully (if I ever have time to put into it) mySQL will also support
Kerberos V authentication and encryption (which will be way cool when
used in conjunction with mod_krb5 and KRB5_SAVE_CREDENTIALS -- you can
authenticate directly to the database with the same "password" used
for Web authentication).
