I figured it out.  Turns out that the problem was the name of my table,
which was 'plant'.  

> >    Database   products   products.asc  dbi:mysql:nursery:mysql:3306

Changing this to

   Database   products   plant.asc  dbi:mysql:nursery:mysql:3306

works fine and dandy -- the third column specifies the table name within
the database 'nursery' to use as a surrogate products.asc file.
