I always use [perl] for this but there is also a [set] tag
[perl arg=scratch]
$a = tag_data('session', 'arg');
($b,$c) = split /\|/, $a;
if($b) {
$Safe{'scratch'}->{'type'} = $b;
$Safe{'scratch'}->{'uctype'} = ucfirst($b);
}
...
[/perl]
In your results page you access the value like this
<h1>[scratch ucmanufact] [scratch uctype] Categories</h1>
