I think your problem is not permissions.
Presumably your minivend runs as `mvend'. In which case
user `mvend' wrote the file and that same user `mvend'
is trying to read it. The permissions are ok.
Experiment with
[file name="asdfas/asdfa/sdfa/asdfasdf"] where you know one
exists. The path is relative to catalog home. Work from there.
