[mv] problem with perl on linux i think...

perl is returning an error during configure.  I am using Slackware 7.0, wich comes with
perl 5.005_03

the error it returns is directly after the line that tests the test.pl script to see if
the server is running:

server.......ok 1
not communicating with server
socket link..make: *** [test_dynamic] Error 29

Does this mean i should download and compile perl myself? I'd like to avoid that (too
time consuming)
any help what i need to do to get this working please respond. thanks!

ps. I ran ldconfig after installing perl to update all the modules and whatnot.
