[mv] problem with [loop-next], trying to make a "new items" section on the index page...

I'm trying to find out a way to load "new releases" on the index page
when you first enter the catalog, instead of the random pages the simple
catalog brings up.  to do this, the easiest method i thought would work
was to use the [loop-next] code like this:(using the browse.html code

[loop-next][calc]'[loop-field new]' eq 'N' [/calc][/loop-next]

this is the only line i changed in the actual code from the browse.html
file in the simple catalog, other than html changes.
i then named this file newtitles, and call it using an [include page]
tag in the index.html file.

in my products.asc file, i have a field called "new" where i mark new
items as "Y" and not new items as N.

but it still returns all products in the products.asc file.  can someone
help me with this? or is there an easier/better way to implament this?
