[mv] Dynamic LEFTSIDE DB driven
****** message to minivend-users from Barry Treahy <treahy@mmaz.com> ******
Rather than re-invent the wheel, I thought I'd describe what I have
coming in as a project and see if anyone has done this and released it
for public domain before I dive in.
I have a customer that has 6, maybe 7 different product categories.
That isn't too bad except that within each category, they may have as
many as 12-15 lines and 3 or 4 additional sub-categories deep. Perhaps
a sample diagram is worth a thousand words:
PRODUCT CATEGORY 1
MATERIAL TYPE A of 1
FINISH TYPE I of A of 1
FINISH TYPE II of A of 1
CUSTOM TYPE a of II of A of 1
CUSTOM TYPE b of II of A of 1
CUSTOM TYPE c of II of A of 1
FINISH TYPE III of A of 1
MATERIAL TYPE B of 1
FINISH TYPE I of B or 1
FINISH TYPE II of B of 1
and within each last tier can be anywhere from 6 to 18 actual products.
I looked at this two ways, I could hard code each static page (yeck) or
I tought about creating a seperate database to feed the input normally
used on the leftside so that adjustments to any part could be done in a
more configurable manner.
If someone has done this and can share code, that would be great. If
this has been attempted and it either turned out to be a nightmare not
worth the work when compared to static pages or can't be done, I'd
appreciate that input as well.
Thanks all!
