[mv] Static Pages
****** message to minivend-users from Kristofer Munn <kmunn@munn.com> ******
I've looked around on the site and in the mailing list archives and can't
seem to find an answer to this seemingly simple question.
I have made what I believe to be the appropriate adjustments to the
catalog.cfg files:
Static Yes
StaticAll Yes
StaticDir (appropriate directory path)
StaticFly Yes
StaticPath (appropriate URL path)
and can successfully build a static version of the site in the directory I
choose. The instructions I do find say that I should just be able to
restart the server and suddenly everything will serve faster. Except that
I don't see any difference. Now the existing site is not slow most of the
time so perhaps the difference just isn't noticeable. The static pages
work fine if we go to them directly via the webserver.
Which brings me to my question: How do static pages work in Minivend?
(1) You generate static pages in a directory and then point your
users to that directory. Links that can't be static point to the
CGI script.
(2) The CGI script knows which pages are static/dynamic and just service
them up from disk. The CGI is still called but is doing no work
beyond sending the static file to the requesting browser.
(3) The CGI script is supposed to detect which files exist and are static
and then redirect the user to the files. This doesn't seem to be
happening. There are no messages during startup that say
anything about static pages.
Thanks for any help...
