Actually, you can run CGIs from any directory in Apache (or any other 
webserver, for that matter).  However, because all Minivend requests must 
travel through the tlink/vlink CGI you will never get 
http://www.yourdomain.com/scan/se=blah, you would only be able to have 
http://www.yourdomain.com/yourcgi/scan/se=blah.

If you REALLY want to have the catalog based from the root of your site, 
just copy the static source from your catalog index and paste it into your 
index or default at the top level.  That's the easiest way.  :-)

Otherwise, I'd config Apache to run CGIs from the root, turn on the 
XbitHack, name the cgi 'index.html' and see if it works.  :-)

You may also be able to run MiniVend in a server side include, but I've 
never tried it... if it works, let us know.
