[mv] Subtotal tag suddenly has stopped working

Minvend 3.14 on FreeBSD
I have a site which has gone down unexpectedly.
When I open the URL for the catalog I get a 500 Error. Nothing in the
Minivend or catalog error logs.
Trying a reconfig fails. yet using the same reconfig script works with the
other catalogs.
According to the documentation, Debug isn't available anymore.... What's the
next step?
