I'm not sure of the answer to your question, but I have some related
information. :) 
There is web-based accounting system being developed in the QuckBooks
model, and it is expected to be open source, and possibly cooperate with
Minivend down the road. The website for the project is here: http://www.webaccountant.org/
  Despite the note on the front page, the primary author, Chris Hardie,
has been making good project on a new version lately. You can contact
