RE: [mv] Raising Money
****** message to minivend-users from "Steve Fairhead" <steve@sfdesign.co.uk> ******
Birgitt Funk raises some interesting thoughts re documentation. Some random
reactions:
* If there was a good book on Minivend, I'd buy it. OTOH one problem with
such documents is that they can rather quickly become obsolete, and can
inhibit the s/w author from making substantive changes.
* I'm finding that the current documentation is fairly complete, but is
perhaps not ideally structured (as happens when it grows alongside a rapidly
evolving body of work). An example is that the permissions issue is dealt
with in several places (installation, debugging, etc) where perhaps
consolidation and cross-referencing would work better. Thus restructuring
the current docs might be a more attainable target than rewriting them.
* I don't personally think that raising & distributing finance would work
well, or is in the spirit of the Unix/FSF etc effort. There must be other
more Unixy ways of allowing third parties to contribute, and to be rewarded
for their efforts...?
