RE: [mv] SQL Database Name - Something Other Than test_minivend (SOLVED)

****** message to minivend-users from Cameron Prince <PRINCECB@novachem.com> ******

Greetings all,

After banging my head for several hours now, I decided that integrating
MiniVend with MySQL couldn't be this hard. I deleted the test catalog and
started over.

1) Made new catalog using makecat with MySQL support = 1
2) Restarted MiniVend and loaded simple demo in browser
3) Logged into MySQL and verified test_minivend database
4) Changed a few values in the database manually and verified in browser
5) Stopped MiniVend and MySQL
6) Renamed database /var/lib/mysql/test_minivend to
/var/lib/mysql/iellc_test
7) Edited Variable SQLDSN in catalog.cfg
8) Started MySQL and then MiniVend
9) Loaded simple demo home page in browser and got ERROR 500 - Internal
Server Error

Also got this in error.log:

Runtime error: Can't call method "record_exists" on an undefined value at
/usr/local/minivend/lib/Vend/Data.pm line 108.

After almost breaking my keyboard, I decided to try again...

I followed exactly the same steps but this time I set a password on the
database using mysqladmin before I changed the name of the database and IT
WORKS!

So for those of you out there that want to take on MySQL, BE SURE TO SET A
PASSWORD BEFORE GIVING THE DATABASE A NEW NAME.

Maybe I was naive for not setting a password initially, but I am only
testing and it wasn't blatantly obvious. And what I don't understand is how
the test_minivend database worked without a password.

I haven't seen the error message you're getting, so I can't tell you
for sure what the problem is. But I'd go through catalog.cfg line
by line comparing the one that works and the one that doesn't.

Minivend happily talks to multiple databases, and you can run
multiple catalogs from a single database as well (in case you
just can't figure your problem out).
