Joachim,

  I can't answer all of your question, but I will try address this part.
I know Netscape stores cookies in a file called "MagicCookie" (I think)
it's probably in your netscape preferences folder. However, Netscape may
store cookies in memory for a while and write them to disk later. I'm
not sure. 
  Other browsers I use, IE 5 and iCab (made in Germany!) 2.0 (both for
the Macintosh) make it really easy to manage cookies, and this has been
very helpful when debugging cookie issues with Minivend. Both allow you
to view your cookies through the Preferences panel. From there, you can
scroll through your cookies, view their contents and delete them if you like.
