Hi,
I use a very simple method that might be able to work for your needs....
to get a :

column1        column2
column3        column4

Use the following:

<tr>
[search-list]
<TD ALIGN="CENTER" WIDTH="105">
<FONT SIZE="-2" FACE="verdana" color="Black">[item-field now]</FONT></TD>
[calc] return '</TR><TR>' if '[item-increment]' % 3 eq 0[/calc]
[/search-list]

The number 3 in the [calc] tag is the number of columns...if you want to use
this with [loop] just change it to [loop-increment] instead of
[item-increment]
Note that the first <tr> is above the [search-list].  The rest of the <tr>
get inserted dynamically, depending on the number after the % (if you change
it to 2 it will create 2 columns)
This works for me and i use it everywhere...BUT, it doesnt work properly if
you use [item-change] tag...
