[item-field category] refers to a field in the products database named
category, for the current item number.
[item-data products category] ALSO refers to a field in the products
database named category, for the current item number (it just another way
of referencing the same data).
[item-data cat selector] refers to a field named selector, in a record in
the cat database, which *****--->has the same item-number in its code
column<---**** as the currently displayed item-number in products. The cat
database contains categories, not products, so you will never get a match.

Where in the docs did you find a [cat-data] tag? :-}
