Use mv_sort_field and mv_sort_option (ts and tf in one-click searches, I
think - check the docs) in your search spec instead of [sort] on the
results page. The entire results will be sorted as a unit, even across
multiple results pages when using [more]. One word of warning: to get it
to work, I have always had to specify "0" (the column number for the code
field) as the last value of mv_sort_field:
<input type=hidden name=mv_sort_field value="category,0">
