I like Tallyman as a good sounding name, but wanted to let you know that up
til now it didn't occur to me that this name actually has a meaning.
Only when looking at the demo shop and looking at the picture of the
quarters, I started to wonder why that picture and then I grabbed the
dictionary. So, Tallyman is a good name, but certainly not for non native
English speakers. And I hope you don't think that MiniVend will only be used
in good Ol' America.
MiniVend is much, much more important for countries in the other parts of
the world, for users, who can't associate something with Tallyman, don't
have cheap access to bandwidth, don't have money for shrewed consultants,
but make out 80% percent of the "Bazaar" and, BTW, of these 80% the
majority are women. Poor women ! Women, who want to be free from
"enslaving technologies". _They_ will want an open product and believe it
or not, _they_ want "mind their own business", Akopia's slogan.
Of course that is long-term thinking, something Americans are not that
inclined to do. _They_ trade on micro loans provided through such entities
like the World Bank, UNDP, USAid etc. They sustain the local economies for
the sake of raising their kids and supporting their families and are
_very efficient_ at it. They need a low cost, flexible cart, one
that gives them "freedom" from the "closed source dummy, cutsy" carts and
freedom from middlemen, who have something else in mind when it comes to
trade and do mind a lot about things, many women don't necessary mind that
much about.
So, my wishlist, keep the name "internationally" understandable in its
supposed meaning. Keep the GPL, make the transition and reach out with
your verbose documentation to that potential beginner user group, which
either will be used as semi-slaves for other people's businesses or be
enabled to "mind their OWN business". It's your choice.
.
That's why I got "Roman"-tick about the name. Latin roots are pretty much
understood by many folks around the world.
Ghee, I talk like crazy here, off-topic stuff and more. Can't help thinking
that's my last chance to say something like that. When the moderation
starts, it's over. So, thanks to let me say that.
