With or without SSL! Did this happen _with_ "secure=1" in any form tag
or has you "secure=1" in your form tags?

Maybe, this happen because the table userDB is hidden or set as
"NoSearch"?
Maybe, you can solve this with

(ATTENTION...from my head)
[perl]
$Config->(´NoSearch´) = ´´;
[/perl]

per default, it is set as "$Config->(´NoSearch´) = ´userdb´;".
