As an ex helpdesk slave for an ISP I appreciate how frustrating it can
be to be asked the same question over and over. Especially when, in our
eyes, the answer is obvious or easily found. However, one of the things
to I had to keep in mind was that many of the people signing on for the
first time weren't idiots or lazy. Its just that they were new and, most
importantly, didn't really grasp the language. Back in those days (1994)
the geek terminology we all take for granted were relatively obscure
words known only to the initiated. I can only imagine how much more
difficult it must have been for people whose first language isn't
english (we had quite a few of those).
The truth, as far as I see it, is that the archives are wonderful
sources of information but searching them is a very hit or miss prospect
if you don't know how to properly phrase the question. This is made more
difficult by the fact that minivend itself adds new 'words' (or at least
functional definitions of them) that might not be clear at first.
Formulating the right question, as any researcher knows, is generally
the most difficult part of a reseach project. In much the same way,
knowing how to phrase the question is the most important part of finding
data in the archives and the most difficult.
Or to sum up the preceeding paragraphs in a few words
Dude, give him a break why don't ya?
