RE: [mv] Preview of Akopia Interchange
****** message to minivend-users from "Christopher Thompson" <ct@arborinternet.com> ******
It is good to from an Akopia person. I gave a longer proposal in another
message, but I wanted to answer your questions.
I have mentioned the dual use of Minivend, as a toolkit and as a full
featured solution, in my other email. I think one of my fears is that the
toolkit nature of Minivend will be lost in Interchange, as the full
featured solution grows. Solutions are great if you have the problem they
solve. If you have a different problem, then that solution gets added to
the problem itself. I hope this dual use is supported.
An additional concern I have is that the MV 4.0x series was just starting
to stabilize when the jump was made to MV 4.5x. Minivend never has had
stable and dev releases (which might be a good thing). It is not unclear
when MV4.5x will stabilize. I believe Mike has indicated that it should be
just a continuation of the MV4.0x series, but I am sure there are some new
things as well. I have MV3 catalogs that I have been waiting to upgrade
until I am comfortable with MV4. Interchange just throws delays that.
I am excited about Interchange and hope that the ways in which a grateful
community can contribute are expanded (I mentioned a _plug-in_ concept in
my other email). Mike has earned my respect many times over, so I know
that he will be up front with the decisions he makes and be open to input.
I assume, by association, that Akopia people are the same.
