Hmmm...looking into the test.pl, it seems to me, something is wrong with
your machine.
Hmmm...if you are familiar with perl, you can debug it with

perl -d test.pl

and use the option W (watch) to watch the $LINK_HOST, $LINK_PORT, $host,
$port and $ok. 
It seems to me, the port 7786 is not free for MiniVend in your machine.
In UNIX MODE, the port 7786 is not needed. But in INET MODE, MiniVend
need the port 7786.
This is the result of my reading the test.pl. But I am not sure about my
results, because I am new in perl.
If minivend is well running in UNIX MODE only (start it with
"bin/minivend -u"), you can change the port number in minivend.cfg (See
"TcpMap 7786 -") and start the MiniVend server with INET MODE again to
see what you get ("bin/minivend -i" or with "-r -i" to restart the
MiniVend Server with INET MODE only).
