RE: [mv] Why is MiniVend so slow??

Hi Keith,

No need for SQL with Minivend. You can use Glimpse and get the performance
with the flexibility of Flat files.

We have over 12,000 products (allot of fields, mighty hefty database) in a
flat format. Using Glimpse we find it faster doing text searches that mySQL
with Minivend. (search time average 1.8 seconds).

I visited your pages, and also found the DNS look up very long (on DSL
512K). DNS took 13 seconds, page in 1.8 seconds.

If you are on a Virtual Server from an ISP then also check out if their are
other users eating to resources. Minivend places allot of demand on Perl and
RAM.

I also saw needless statements in your queries (focus on "keywords" in text
based not whole statements) and the search is faster.

Thank You

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I don't know what it was for sure
but I checked the sytem resources while it was slow and it was never using
more that 5 percent. I did go into the minivend.cfg file and changed it
from low traffic to high traffic, and it seemed to speed it up, but not to
where I want it to be. This is a pretty robust machine and all it does is
server web pages, and MySQL for those web pages.

Will MinVend speed up any when I switch the database from the standard text
files to MySQL?

I use PHP with MySQL quite a bit and I have to say it's always pretty zippy.
I'm hoping there will be some preformance increace when I move MiniVend to
MySQL.

Anybody have any comments about the speed difference between MySQL and Text
file database?
