****** message to minivend-users from "Glover George" <geg2@ra.msstate.edu> ******

Would this list be pertinent to Interchange or not? If not is there one? I
just played with both the latest minivend package and the developer's
release. The developer's release is certainly aptly named...DEVELOPER's
release. First of all the first couple of times I tried it I could get the
perl modules via lynx. Now when I try (after deleting everything!) it
simply asks me do I want to get them and when I answer yes it does nothing
but go to the next question without trying to get the packages. There are a
LOT of error messages about cannot find something or other int @INC. The
first time I run perl Makefile.pl it says it can't find HTML/Entities even
though it's in the extra/ directory. Even giving perl the -Iextra/ doesn't
work the first time. However, if you run it a second time it doesn't
complain but I don't think it finds it.

At any rate, once I get it installed (and yes, i have made it install a
couple times) I can't get the barry demo to configure. It will configure
with the native database but not the postgresql support. The typical errors
are something like can't the demo files -- check permissions. I am running
as root and because of the frustration changed every damn directory that I
could think that it was wanting to 777! It still complains about
permissions. The time I got it to make it past there and makecat barry,
when I went to run minivend -r it said that it couldn't find something like
Vend::DBI::create. What's this all about. Is it just not in the path, do I
need some other packages.

Sorry to ask so many questions but I know absolutely squat about Perl. I
can run circles around C++ but never messed with perl (although I CERTAINLY
plan too...but there's all those different languages to learn also...Tcl/tk,
bash, perl, sed, awk, ...). From what I can tell this is a very robust
package...I just wish I could understand it. Any hints on GOOD resources
and not just the README files?

Thanks.
