[mv] Backup-consultant for Gideon

****** message to minivend-users from "Gideon van Gelder" <gideon@swingmaster.nl> ******

Dear Ed,

We're both on the MV list for some time now and of course,
I've seen all your great answers to various problems.
Now here's the case: I've been doing some free-lance
consulting for the last year for a lovely husband-wife
business, called Steve Estes. (she is called Debbi Estes)
Their website is at http://www.steveestes.com and click
through to "coins for sale" to enter the MV part.
Lately, I haven't had to deal much with them because
things were really running quite smoothly.
However, I'll be leaving for Australia and New Zealand
october 22 to stay for about 8 months (sabattical year
off). I won't have a lap top with me or anything, i'll
be backpacking. So would you be prepared to be my backup
consultant for that period ? I guess it's most appropriate
for them to pay you as much as they paid me, which is
$60 USD/hour. Please understand that this is really an
"emergency" backup, since their ISP
(http://www.inetarena.com, David Neff) runs daily backups
so if something bad happens, he'll probably be able to
restore things. Then if he can't (he's not into MV), he
would contact you, or you would be contacted directly
by Debbi Estes, who does all the Internet related stuff.
So, if they're lucky and nothing bad happens, maybe you won't
even hear from them at all.

It's a Linux system that runs mv 3.12 on a virtual server.
It's really the most basic catalog, no auto cc-processing,
no SQL db, just plain text-dbs. They upload stuff themselves
and handle order-processing themselves as well, so they only
need you if something very strange happens. The login
details I'd give you would give you administator rights,
which you'd need to be able to reconfig the catalog via
telnet, if even necessary.

The catalog itself is a trimmed-down version of the good old
simple catalog. It was originally modified by a not very
competent Minivend "consultant", so it's not the best
programmed catalog, then again, it only runs on a handful
of pages (index, with search-form, results-page, basket,
terms of service, free-coins-page, that's it!).

Please let me know if you'd be interested to be my
replacement for the 8 months: it really would mean a lot
to me. Of course then I would tell you 2 or 3 minor details
about how I handled some things, but it's really all very
basic and *small* ;-). You'd also find Debbi very easy to
work with: she's a very nice person.
I'm looking forward to your reaction.

Best regards,
-=Gideon ( http://www.SwingmasterRecords.com is my latest
           homegrown project )
