How about not adding it to the cart, but jumping to an intermediary
page set up the way he wants?  THAT page adds it to cart.

Seems to me the way to approach this is to force an entry of the quantity
*before* putting it in the cart.  Don't default the quantity to one, or
anything else-and if no quantity, don't put it in the cart.

As for the implementation details, I'm too new at MV to say much more than
this general comment.  But that's the way I did it in the shopping cart
system I used in the past.
