[ic] Bulk Image upload

I am trying to upload images in bulk into the image/items directory for
a site, but have found that if I FTP the files, they aren't accessible
within IC even if they are in the correct dir and have the correct
permissions.  It appears that images have to be uploaded individually
through the store admin interface for IC.  Any suggestions?
