Could please tell me how to switch databases in a page?

For example, if I have a catalog called mv_catalog, I want to do all the
normal catalog stuff from there, but I want user information to come from
mv_mall.

I tried
[userdb database=mv_mall.userdb] with no results...

Any help would be appreciated.
