[ic] site slows down after a while

I have my site on high settings, and after starting the server it takes approximately 6 seconds using  my modem connection to connect to the site. After the site has been on for a while, it has taken me more than a minute to connect to the site. I have tried searching the archives for this sort of problem, with no luck. Does anyone have a clue as to what I can do to keep the server optimized?
