Looks to me like where minivend dies is not where the error occurs.
Instead it seems like we are not actually writing any session data
into the file. No doubt "Magic" would fail on empty file. The
file does get created:
/t/F:
-rw------- 1 minivend spider 0 Nov 26 22:14 tFXkGvQr:maine.com
-rw------- 1 minivend spider 0 Nov 26 22:14 tFXkGvQr:maine.com.lock

I blew away session files like this
cd session ; rm -r *
Then started minivend.
It is on the same machine; there are no byteorder issues.
This is on one of our development machines so we can play with it
as required. But no more tonight. ;^)
