I had a similar problem, and found that the search field in the cat table
needed specific values on new lines and something had made the new lines
disappear...

The values for the record New items is;
fi=merchandising
sf=featured
se=new

Sale Items is;
fi=merchandising
sf=featured
se=special
su=yes
