I am trying to install interchange on an Apache server. When I tried expanding the archive with

gzip -dc interchange-4.6.1.tar.gz | tar xvf -

I got a screen full of scrolling gibberish, so I unpacked it to my desktop and ftped the whole directory to my server. I used telnet to connect to the server and changed to the interchange directory and ran ./configure and I got "permission denied". Can anyone help wit this?
