Userdb no data being saved.

Hi Folks,
    (1) thanks to all who helped with the messed up data problem, it turned out to be a bad
install with the C compiler!

    (2) This is the question: I have noticed that most MV's generate the databases into
DBM/GDBM files, however, the platform I am on, does not have either. (1) When I enter in data
to be saved in the userdb.asc file, it does not get saved at all... any ideas why?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
