Minivend Use on Multiple Servers.
****** message to minivend-users from Jason Korkin <jkorkin@korksoft.com> ******
List:
After doing much snooping around in the doc's and the FAQ, I think that I have
figured out how to have Minivend run on multiple machines... I am going to outline
it here, and please, correct me if I am wrong! :-)
1. Use tlink instead of the usual vlink program.
2. Use INET mode, start MV using: V_ROOT/bin/start -i
3. In Minivend.cfg file, use TcpPort directive like:
TcpPort <<EOT
http://kork.ne.mediaone.net:7786 mv_admin
http://kork.ne.mediaone.net:7787 simple
http://kork.ne.mediaone.net:7788 test_cat
EOT
4. In Minivend.cfg file, use TcpHost directive like:
TcpHost localhost kork.ne.mediaone.net www.korksoft.com
This is used to allow the MV server to allow connections from/to the
catalogs.
5. Use PGP for passing data, as it is going over the internet, and possible
security risk is at bay... Even though all data is
protected via a firewall; and is on a private LAN.
I think those are all the needed steps to get MV working over multiple
machines, right? :-) Let me know your comments, etc. about it... The real reason
for this is because I am going to be running MV on one machine, with a secure
server on another machine; and the data areas are not NFS mounted. The MV machine
will allow users to connect via telnet, while the secure server will not allow
users to connect via telnet; just a custom CGI application that will allow them to
access their order information directly via the web from a password protected CGI
and .htaccess file.
Please let me know if I am on the right track! :-)
Thanks,
Jason Korkin.
