Another way to do this is to use the .htaccess and .htpasswd files of
your webserver (I don&#180;t know if all webserver support these files, but
apache does).
You can restrict access to directories (and subdirectories...) with
these two - People who don&#180;t have a login are not allowed to access any
file in a directory where the .htaccess resists (the .htpasswd-file
stores the users and their passwords...).

But to use them you have to (re)configure your webserver to "watch" for
these files (in your cgi-bin or the dire where your shop.cgi lies). I
will not explain how to do this here - look at the documentation of your
favorite webserver. 
Of course you must have administrator-rights to do this (if not: perhaps
you know any dark secrets of your admin ;-)...

This is perhaps the easiest way for people who don&#180;t know MV as good as
Mike does or how to program CGIs.
