Thanks to everyone who has been kind enough to give me responses on the setup and use of minivend with windows NT. You've all been very helpful. I'd like to know if the following sounds correct.
This is exactly what I did to my NT machine, from Download to mvend setup failure. I also included, for the sake of posterity, the complete directory tree results from the setup process. Would any of your NT/MV Gurus help me out with this? The good thing is, that I'm completely documenting every keystroke and mouse-click from download to completion of installation, so if we help each other now, there will be a document we can refer people to when they try to install MVEND on thier NT system in the future.
The following error occurs and aborts installation:
Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://localhost:7786/mv_admin/process?ctdgN9dX;;6.
The Operation timed out.
The NT Procedures I used:
make the following directories:
c:/wwwstore
c:/wwwstore/cgi-bin
c:/wwwstore/html
I then set up a URL with c:/wwwstore as the home directory
Then downloaded minivend-latest.exe into c:/wwwstore/
Then opened a dos-shell and typed:
c:/wwwstore/minivend-latest.exe
(this will execute the installation program.)
These are my answers the command-line interrogatives:
Where is your MiniVend to be installed? [/mvend]
answer: /mvend
The Shortcut files could not be made. Start the server with
perl /mvned/bin/minivend -serve
or
\mvend\minivend
The suggested value is probably correct. if it isn't blank.
SendMailLocation? [C:/WINNT/system32/blat - -t]
answer: (hit enter to accept)
Adjusting program variables and defines... done.
That takes care of the program configuration.
If this is your first time using MiniVend, you will want to tmake a sample catalog. If you decide not to do it now, then you will need to run:
C:\mvend\makecat
At that point, MiniVend will be ready to run. Start the daemon with:
c:\mvend\minivend
You may also use the shortcuts that might be present in that folder.
Welcome to MiniVend!
