Can't locate object method "TIEHASH": Bug???

Has anybody seen this error message before? I get it while trying to use
safe_tag() in a catalog sub to do SQL databse lookups. Is this a bug in
minivend? A problem with my Perl (5.005_02, fresh download of the DBI module)?
Oh, yes, I have a [tag touch ...][/tag] in the calling page, although it
doesn't seem to make any difference, yet.
Please help!

P.S.: The same sub works just fine when I define it as a GlobalSub.
