Hello Andreas,

i have try out, why username and password not asked by your webserver if
you have apache. If you have created an User Database like

htpasswd -c /usr/local/etc/httpd/users andreas

and you have a .htaccess file in your secret directory like

AuthUserFile /usr/local/etc/httpd/users
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthName ByPassword
AuthType Basic
require user andreas

it will not ask your name and your password, because in your webserver
config file (http.conf or srm.conf) the setting of "AllowOverride" is
"none" per default. It must be set to "AllowOverride AuthConfig".

Make sure, the setting to .htaccess is right like "AccessFileName
.htaccess" and the .htaccess file has the same permission like your
minivend. This was my trouble formerly. I am not an apacheguru and if
there are a mistake or an error and someone see this, please let me
know.

Joachim
