I understand your request and often feel the same, but who of the
whizzards (who now frequently respond to setup questions) would
subscribe to the setup list? So we may end up with a setup list where
one blind leads the other. We have all been newbees and should now be
committed to occasionally support those who start-up. 
On the other hand, there are too many questions of people who find it
easier to ask the list than to read the manual or scan the maillist. We
might be able to avoid quite a number of unnecessary questions by
educating the newbees to check the documentation, the FAQs and the
maillist archives before posting by simply providing directions to the
relevant parts of the documentation rather then providing the answer
itself.
