Just my two-cents worth:
There are a number of quality text editors available that properly handle UNIX text files on a DOS machine. I use Homesite for editing my HTML and text files. Homesite allows you to set the SAVE MODE to "unix", stripping the troublesome CR from the end of the lines. You will need to same text files on the DOS machine with the .txt extension and then rename them after binary ftp to the unix server.
