A couple of days ago I figured out how to do have different shipping
options based on geographical location coupled with minimum charges,
and mailed it to the list.  

I now need to disable shipping costs for certain products, and I can't
figure it out.  I have an entry in shipping.asc like:

   ground  Ground  price   0   9999999 s ground; [value state] @@TOTAL@@

What I need to do is pass a list of all items in the cart to the subroutine,
which will then go through and check fields for each one (actually, I just
need to send the price and the value for the field noship for each item).

I've tried

   ground  Ground  price   0   9999999 s ground; [value state] [item-list][item-price][/item-list]

as a prelimary test, but it doesn't appear to work.

Is there a way to do this?  And how to I access it in my perl subroutine?

Any help is much appreciated -- I've been banging my head on this for a while
now.
